“Women living in Vancouver’s notorious Downtown Eastside are often isolated and at risk. Mary’s Place is an outreach established for women by the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement to provide a place of safety and community. It was just around the corner from the sisters’ Cordova Street convent when it opened. Today Mary’s Place is situated between “The Door Is Open” drop-in centre and the convent of the Missionaries of Charity, who moved in September into the convent vacated by the Franciscans.” (BC Catholic)
