Ash Wednesday on February 10

ASH WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 10, 2016 -besides the morning Mass at 8:30 am there will be evening Mass at 7:00 p.m. with the distribution of ashes at both Masses. It marks the beginning pf Lent, a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE FOR LENT: Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence as is Good Friday. On those days you may not substitute acts of charity or piety in place of abstinence. Normally, Fridays of the year are days of abstinence from meat, but Catholics may substitute special acts of piety or charity. The requirement to fast binds those from 18 to 59 years of age. Abstinence (no flesh meat allowed) binds those 14 years old and up.

Stewardship Reflection—3rd Sunday of Lent

March 11 — The image from today’s Gospel of Christ driving out the money changers and merchants is one we need to give some thought to. When consumerism and materialism, and not our faith in God, become the centre of our lives it can be a real problem. Good stewards allow their faith to infuse all of their money man-agement decisions. We can find balance amid the rampant con-sumerism and materialism in our society by sharing first, saving second, and spending third.
